47 Did Edward Yang Extend Our Lives by Three Times?
After the invention of cinema, human life has been extended by at least three times compared to before. — This is perhaps Edward Yang’s most romantic expression regarding film. In 2023, Mr. Sha Qingqing had the privilege of watching the over four-hour restored version of A Brighter Summer Day in a Tokyo cinema, while another major work by Edward Yang, A Confucian Confusion, was also completed restoration this year. In Taipei, the three-month-long Yi Yi Reconstructed, the most significant memorial exhibition on Edward Yang to date, officially closed on October 22. In this episode, hosts Sha Qingqing and Bo Qiao will discuss Edward Yang, a crucial yet tragically early-deceased director in Chinese-language cinema. The discussion will expand from Edward Yang and his films to topics such as the New Taiwan Cinema.
