71 Do Turkey Scientists Deserve to Study the Farmer (Too)?
The Three-Body Problem tells an unsettling story of the “Farmer Hypothesis.” The story imagines that scientists among turkeys observe the farmer’s feeding habits and deduce a great cosmic law, only to be caught and slaughtered by the farmer on the day they announce the law, which happens to be Thanksgiving. With the adaptation of The Three-Body Problem into film and television, the Farmer Hypothesis has sparked more confusion and unease in people’s minds. However, unlike the horror conveyed in the novel, modern science was born in a theistic environment. This episode uses the Farmer Hypothesis to discuss details of the relationship between modern science and religion, aiming to break the simplistic, either-or, binary narrative on this topic.

《三体》讲述了一个令人不安的“农场主假说”故事。故事假想火鸡中的科学家通过观察农场主投食现象总结出一条伟大的宇宙规律，并在宣布规律的感恩节当天被农场主捉去杀了。随着《三体》小说的影视化，农场主假说也激发出更多人心中的困惑和不安。不过和《三体》小说传达的恐怖色彩不同，近代科学正是在有神论的环境下诞生的。本期节目将藉由农场主假说，聊一些近代科学与宗教之间的细节，以期打破这一话题下非此即彼、二元对立的简单叙事。
